Remember those TV ads from when you were a kid that always sold those weird (mostly useless) home products like a set of knives from Ronco that could slice through a Coke can and then cut smoothly through a tomato like it was nobody’s business? Or a combination pen-knife and flashlight? And who could forget Chia pets? Apparently chia sprouts are actually a super food, but who can actually take them seriously? I don’t think anyone can because when you think “chia” there’s no way any American over the age of 25 doesn’t immediately start singing “Cha-cha-cha-Chia!” in their head!
(Aside: I actually met the person who created the original packaging for the Chia pet when I lived in Boston–he was a graphic and packaging designer who I interviewed for a project on how long-term unemployment affects people’s lives. Yes, our sucky economic cycles have even adversely affected the designer of the Chia box. But I digress…)
All of those cheesy products were always labeled (both on the commercials and on their packaging) with the following phrase as if it were some sort of pat endorsement or guarantee of quality. (Guarantees were big with these folks–weren’t they always exclaiming that there was no way in hell you wouldn’t be satisfied with their product “or your money back!”?):
AS SEEN ON TV!
Well, we’re not about to be seen on TV here at this blog, BUT I am excited to report that Foie Gras and Funnel Cakes is now being listed as a top food blog on Alltop.com, which features content feeds and a directory of great content from around the Interwebs. You can see me listed here if you take the time to scrolllllllll all the waaaaaay down the page.
Although we may be at the bottom of the page, at least we are now Alltop!
And I’m pleased to report we are in good company with other prominent food blogs like Dave Liebovitz’s blog, Pioneer Woman Ree Drummond, the Epicurious editors blog, Smitten Kitchen, 101 Cookbooks, etc. –all folks who are no food blog slouches! Although I did submit the blog for consideration myself, hopefully acceptance is an endorsement that I deserve to be in this company!
As a featured blog, I can also use their logo as a nifty badge on my page, saying that I’m one of their featured blogs, which is pretty darned cool if you ask me. I debated about which one to use. I particularly like the one I’ve used here with this post – “Confirmation that I kick ass!”–but for now I’ll assuage the Lutheran modesty I grew up with by using the “All the cool kids (and me!)” logo. Maybe I’ll swap ’em out later if this lark goes anywhere.
Thanks to everyone whose actually been reading these puppies! Keep reading and please keep sharing!
